Asphalt plant in L'Orignal, Ontario

|
t the L'Orignal quarry,
Bertrand Construction runs an asphalt plant, which has a certificate of approval for air
by the Ministry of Environment. Our plant can produce a variety of mixes that can meet all
the M.T.O's high provincial standards. All our mixes are designed by a certified
engineering firm in accordance with the Asphalt Institute Manual Series No.2 called
"Mix design methods for asphalt concrete and other hot mix types." At the plant
we use computer software, which batches automatically, based on the targets of all
ingredients in the mix design. The system also has a printed log to record all batches and
mixes being produced. Our laboratory is equipped with an asphalt extractor |
|
that tests
any finished asphalt product from the plant, breaks it down physically and compares all
the gradation and physical properties with the target mix design for quality control. The
company serves all regional projects from the smallest to the largest and our clientele
can be the government for major highways, and private construction contractors for
secondary roads, commercial parking, and private home driveways. Bertrand Construction is
also a distributor for cold mix asphalt of high performance, which is mostly used for road
maintenance during winter. |

ertrand Construction also
runs a lime plant at the L'Orignal quarry. Our crushing mill plant is controlled by a
computer system that monitors amperage variation on the crusher motor to automatically
adjust the flow of the raw material being fed. It ultimately produces a very high-quality
lime. Lime is the pillar of agriculture since it can control the PH in the soil and
maximize growth. A soil with too much acidity in relation to what is being
cultivated in the field will prevent the full agricultural potential (poor harvest,
difficulty to grow certain |
|
species,
fertilizers that cannot be effective to their full potential, etc.). Lime is a known
product, but education and awareness are necessary amongst the farmers to show its
long-term importance. Bertrand Construction's plant and product are certified by the
Quebec Bureau of Standards (BNQ) as a natural calcium lime. Our industrial lime is produced and stored in a
silo. Then it is hauled with special tankers to I.K.O. Industries,
a world class manufacturer fo roof shingles. |
