Louis Bertrand (1869-1930), his son, followed in his footsteps in more ways than one. He
continued with the general store and opened the company, L. Bertrand & Son, with his
sons. Louis was elected mayor of Longueuil Township from 1920 to 1925 and, in 1924, he
became reeve of the United Counties of Prescott & Russell.

(1894-1980), Louis' son, was also a tradesman. He served as
mayor of the municipality of L'Orignal from 1922 to 1929 and became a member, then the
president, of the local Public School Board for numerous years. Elie O. Bertrand sat on
the United Counties of Prescott & Russell Council and was vice-president of the AECFO
(Association d'éducation canadienne-française de l'Ontario). Elected Member of
Parliament in the Commons in July 1929, he was subsequently re-elected until 1949. As a

Joseph,
Élie's brother (1896-1941), became a road and public works contractor. Skilled in this
line of work, he founded Bélanger & Bertrand which eventually became Bertrand &
Frères Construction Company when his brother Anatole joined forces with
him. The latter assumed the presidency until 1970.
The two brothers, Joseph and Anatole,
protected the family's commercial interests for a 3rd generation.
A 4th generation followed when Robert
Bertrand (1933-1996) took over the presidency from his father between 1971 and
1991.
