In the 1980s and 1990s, Bertrand
Construction was quite involved in the construction of private residential subdivisions.
We were an important residential land developer in Eastern Ontario with numerous
subdivisions built in Hawkesbury, West-Hawkesbury, L'Orignal, Vankleek Hill, Casselman,
Rockland and Cumberland. We also built our own residential subdivisions and opened the
following streets: Fries, Davidson, Belmont, Lecours in L'Orignal and Maplewood in
West-Hawkesbury.
Bertrand Construction has had many
business partners throughout the years. With these partnerships of companies and
individuals, we became a 50% shareholder in a quarry in Sarsfield, Ontario that was in
operation for a few years.

In 1989, Bertrand Construction supplied 35,000 M.T. of asphalt for the paving of Highway
417 between Hawkesbury and the Quebec-Ontario border. Bertrand Construction successfully
completed the project and met the Ministry of Transportation's (MTO) high standards of
quality.
| In 1994, Bertrand Construction
obtained a private construction contract to build a subdivision in Hawkesbury. The cost of
the project was $835,000 and consisted of opening three new streets
(Charlebois-Pilon-Roch) for a total of 88 lots. Bertrand Construction was responsible for
infrastructure (water, sewer, and electricity), the roads with granular, asphalt paving,
and concrete curbs. This project proved to be a great success. |

In 1995, Bertrand
supplied 16,000 M.T. of asphalt and 17,000 M.T. of granulars for the reconstruction of
Highway 17 in the Hawkesbury area. We met all the Ministry of Transportation standards
with success.

In 1996-1997, Bertrand Construction
built the Boulevard du Chenail in Hawkesbury. This project consisted in building a new
road partly in the Ottawa River. We had to relocate a stream, build a new road with
blasted rock, use granulars and asphalt paving on the road, install concrete curbs,
sidewalks, and install all the street lighting and signs. This 1.6 million dollar contract
was to build a new road that would connect McGill Street to the new Long Sault Bridge. All
the Ministry of Transportation's specifications were met with success. |
The province of
Ontario awarded a contract of 23 million dollars for the reconstruction of approximately
40 km of Highway 417 between St-Isidore and the merger of Highways 17 and 417. The
contract to be completed in 2002 saw Bertrand Construction as one of the major suppliers
of construction-related materials and services.
