At the end of the 1930s and the
beginning of the 1940s, Bertrand Construction planned and built the local airstrips in
Hawkesbury, Pendleton, St-Eugène and Carp.
In 1941, Bertrand Construction obtained a subcontract at the future airport in Dorval,
Quebec. To begin with, our work consisted in cutting the trees and clearing the land for
the airport. Then we took all the stone fences, crushed them and used the finished
granular product to build the landing and takeoff runways. Next time you go to Dorval
Airport, think of us at Bertrand Construction, since the work we did in the 1940s is still
used each year by thousands of people and carriers.

In the mid 1940s, as subcontractors, Bertrand Construction drilled, blasted and crushed
granular in Orléans for the Department of National Defense. The granular was then used to
build the proving grounds for the Canadian Army to test the endurance of army equipment
and machinery 24 hours a day.
Bertrand Construction owned the car
dealership for Hudson cars in the 1940s. In the 1950s the firm sold Hillman cars,
International trucks and farm implements.
